The Living Desert Announces Name of New Giraffe

Palm Desert/Indian Wells, CA: The Living Desert today announced the name of their new baby giraffe. “Mutombo” has been selected as the official name for the male giraffe born September 27, 2006. The name is in honor of Dikembe Mutombo, Chairman and President of the Dikembe Mutomobo Foundation and NBA player for the Houston Rockets. The name was selected by the sponsor of the giraffe exhibit Mary Storer and her grandson.

Donate Old Cell Phones to The Living Desert

The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens is collecting old cell phones to raise funds and reduce the risk that hazardous materials in these phones end up in our landfills. By donating used cell phones, funds are raised for our Earth Day conservation programs at Mother Nature’s Earth Jam, being held this year on April 22, 2006. The Living Desert will receive up to $10 for every cell phone donated.
